CLEAN THROUGH THE WORD

John 15:3

Memory Verse: Psalms 119:9 – “How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.”

We find ourselves in a world that has been marred with filthiness and all kinds of corruption. There is unbelief, fear and evil of every kind. Morality has been replaced by human rights and freedom. The norm is for people to do things they fancy without recourse to its morality. Besides, their evaluation of what is moral does not have to fall in with the standard of the bible. If you converse with people, especially those who are not in the faith, they rub off some negativity on you. When you watch the television, there is always something negative, something with some fear and uncleanness in it. Apart from these numerous external influences, we also battle with wrong thoughts that impinge in our minds.

How can Christians purify themselves from the stains and contamination in the world today? It is only through the word of God. It is the perfect cleansing agent that purifies and purges the mind and thought from every defilement. In our text, Jesus told His disciples “You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.” This makes us understand the relevance and importance of God’s word to us as believers. We cannot undermine its ability to purify.

Paul admonished the brethren in Colossians 3:16 “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” God’s word displaces sin and unrighteousness from a man’s heart and replaces it with holiness and righteousness. It removes fear and replaces it with faith. The word acts as a cleanser. Immediately you come under its influence and power, you become cleansed from every contamination.

Reflection – Jesus is the embodiment of God’s word. Have you accepted Him into your life? He is the only one who can keep you clean from the filth in the world today.
